10 Education focused startups in India that will rule in 2018 and beyond

India's online education industry is expected to grow almost eight times to hit $1.96 billion by 2021, with the number of paid users rising six-fold to 9.6 million, according to a joint report by search giant Google and consultancy firm KPMG.

Here are the 10 education focused startups in India that will rule in 2018 and beyond

1. CollPoll

CollPoll runs a web- and mobile-based platform that aims to connect all stakeholders in the education sector. It serves as an educational institution's personalised platform for communication between students, faculty and administrators.

Founded in 2013 by Vellore Institute of Technology alumunus Hemant Sahal, who previsouly worked with Adianta School for Leadership and Innovation, Manipal Global Education Services, and the World Bank.

2. OneStepUp

Founded by Dewan in 2009, One Step Up Education Services Pvt. Ltd is a career counselling firm that helps students evaluate careers, subjects, and their abilities through online and offline channels. The company currently works with around 60 schools across 13 cities in the country. It has served over 10,000 students so far.

Currently, One Step Up is a business-to-business company and reaches out to students through partnerships with schools, but it will now focus more on a business-to-consumer model.

3. Vedantu

Vedantu is a platform that provides live online tutoring sessions for students from grade 6 to 12. Offerings range from monthly tuitions, IIT Foundation to preparation for exams like NTSE, PSA, KVPY, IMO & JEE Mains. It uses technology to bring together teachers and students to enable live learning between them. Students can get tutoring from a tutor of their choice and preference at a time of their preference.

Started by four IITians, Vamsi Krishna, Pulkit Jain, Saurabh Saxena and Anand Prakash, Vedantu is the second venture by this founding team. Vedantu's focus is on live online 1-to-1 tutoring between a teacher and a student. In its essence, Vedantu wants to bring the offline tutoring experience online, only more personalized.

4. Byju's

Founded in 2011 by Byju Raveendran, BYJU's offers learning programmes for class 6-12 & test preparation for JEE, AIPMT, CAT, IAS, GRE & GMAT. They launched BYJU's'“The Learning App in 2015.

At the beginning of 2017, BYJU's announced plans to acquire US-based gaming startups and launch their international app. Later, in the same month, it also acquired Bengaluru-based Vidyartha, a data-driven platform offering a customised learning guidance to students. The acquisition was in line with BYJU's attempts to create highly personalised learning experiences for the students using the application.

5. iNurture

Founded in 2008, iNurture is into designing and delivering new age innovative, industry-relevant, job oriented undergraduate and postgraduate programs by partnering with universities across India.

Presently, the company has partnered with 25 universities pan-India and has a student base of 3,500. It has a successful track record of placing students in reputed companies post-graduation.

6. Eruditus

Founded in 2010 by Chaitanya Kalipatnapu and Ashwin Damera, Mumbai-based Eruditus offers working professionals of India, Singapore, Dubai and other locations a development programmes in collaboration with INSEAD, Harvard Business School, Wharton, MIT Sloan, and Columbia Business School. Company delivers these programmes either online or through classrooms located globally.

To provide online courses to mid level executive, Eruditus has also partnered with the Emeritus Institute of Management. Emeritus follows the SPOC (small, private, online courses) model to provide six to eight week online courses which cost between $30K '“ $40K.

7. Toppr

Toppr was founded in 2013 by two IIT alumni Zishaan Hayath and Hemanth Goteti. Based out of Mumbai, Toppr now has over 8,000 educators with distribution in 15 cities.

The learning app provides personalised learning for students and also enables them to study comprehensively for CBSE, ICSE, State Boards along with Olympiads, JEE, NEET, and other competitive exams.

The platform's learning pieces include questions, solutions, concepts, and videos for the students signed up on the app. It claims to have cleared 11 lakh doubts, provided 90 lakh tests, with 11 crore practice questions answered.

8. Edurev

EduRev (abbreviation for Education Revolution) started its pilot operations in March last year and launched its portal officially in May. It is an educational network that connects students and teachers with courses and learning material, based on a crowd-sourced library. The team started with operations in Chandigarh, and is now operational in Pune, Haryana and New Delhi.
